DIY Nursery Artwork

I’ve never really been much of a crafty person, but in an effort to save some bucks, I’ve come up with a couple of different cheap and easy DIY projects for the nursery.

The first project was turning this $4.99 second-hand framed mirror…

…into this framed monogram.

I picked up this mirror several weeks ago, not knowing what in the world I was going to do with it. I still didn’t know what to do with it exactly when I started painting the frame with some paint that was collecting dust out in the garage.
I decided to take the mirror out to make the paint job a little easier and ended up liking it without the mirror.

The white looked great, but it needed something a little extra.

So I just added a little red paint around the border.

I had plenty of old fabric sitting around in a box, so I decided to pull it out and put it to use.  I traced the approximate size of the frame onto the fabric.    Then cut it out.

And ironed it!

For the letter B, I simply printed out a large sized B in a font that I liked.

Then taped the piece of paper to the window and taped the fabric over the top of it.  Here we go with more tracing!  (Gotta love that masking tape!)

And then it was simply a matter of filling that B in with some paint.  Nothing fancy, just some old sample paint that I had sitting around.

To get it back in the frame, I wrapped the fabric around the wood backing that had originally held the mirror in place.

Voila!

I am, by no means, a great painter.  This is definitely an area where I need more patience (not necessarily practice).  I tend to just paint, paint, paint and not worry if it looks sloppy or whatever.  “Oh well, who cares, I just want to get it DONE so that I can see what it looks like!”

I will still need to do a few touch ups on this project, but I really love the way it turned out.  And the fun part is that it can be easily switched out later on if we want a different piece of artwork in the frame.

I’ll be sharing my other DIY project that I worked on for the nursery later this week!
